The most extraordinary band to ever be, this blog is a small, clumsy journal of the marvellous past times the artists came to experience.

So here are The Beatles - The last great band in black and white

Scan - “A young George Harrison with his Tony Curtis haircut, bright fluorescent green wasitcoat (under the towel), and skintight jeans. He’s carrying flippers, so he must be off to the swimming pool or the sea. This would be around 1958 or ‘59, when George, Paul, and John were in the Quarrymen skiffle group. I though I’d taken this photograph, but Paul rang up to complain, ‘Hey you bugger lugs! I took that one!’” - Mike McCartney

This is the drainpipe at the back of 20 Forthlin Road. Apparently Paul’s dad Jim was strict when it came to a curfew. If Paul or his brother Mike were home late, then the doors would be locked, and they’d have to climb up the pipe and get in through the bathroom window.
Photography by Mike McCartney.
Paul shouldn’t be out whoring around.

Paul, that hat is simply fabulous baby. xx
and hello, “Sassy” Mary in the background. Clearly it was hereditary.

Scan - Paul McCartney and John Lennon at the Cavern: “The Beatles came back from Hamburg and the fan club organized a welcome home party at the Cavern. John and Paul dressed up as Santas (after all, it was the middle of summer!), and played a couple of songs with the Fourmost, whose first two hits, ‘Hello Little Girl’ and ‘I’m In Love,’ were written by John and Paul,” writes Mike McCartney

Paul & Mike McCartney
LEFT: Paul in a straw trilby plus tree branch. I’d read about posing your subject in front of a backcloth, so I borrowed one of our bedsheets and hung it behind him. But, as you can see, I forgot to iron the creases out first.
RIGHT: Fed up with making him look good all the time, one day I must have told Paul “O.K. it’s my turn. You make me look like Elvis for a change.” This fine portrait of Frank Sinatra McCartney was the result.

“He had a great haircut, he had this long hair that he coiffed back. We had a friend, Arthur,  and he used to describe it as a ‘Fuckin’ turban! Like a fuckin turban!’, and it did, it looked like a great big marvelous thing!” -Paul McCartney
